Allaah the exalted said in His noble book: {Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one’s] hope} Al-Kahf verse 46.

Imam Abdur-Rahmaaan bin Naasir As-Sa’dee rahimahul-llaah said in his tafseer of the above verse: and for that Allaah the exalted informed that wealth and children are adornment of the worldly life, i.e. nothing will remain from that. And that which will remain for man, benefit him and please him are the enduring good deeds. And this include all acts of obedience, the obligatory and the recommended, from the rights of Allaah and the rights of servants, such as: prayer, Zakaah, charity, pilgrim, Umrah, mentioning Allaah, seeking beneficial knowledge, enjoining good and forbidding evil, keeping the kinship, being good to parents, fulfilling the rights of wives, the rights of slaves, the rights of animals and all the forms of philanthropy. All of that is from the enduring good deeds, these are better to your Lord  for reward and better for [one’s] hope. Its reward remain and multiply throughout times, and its reward and benefit are anticipated when there is a need. So these are what competitors should compete for, workers should race each other to and assiduous ones should strive hard to attain.  And ponder how when Allaah set an example of the world, its condition and its shrinking, He mentioned that what in it [world] is of two kinds:

A kind from its adornment that is enjoyed for a short period then goes away leaving no benefit behind for its owner, matter of fact a harm may strikes him. And these are wealth and children.

And a kind that remains and benefits its owner forever. And these are the enduring good deeds.
