A man from the tribe of Khath’am came to the messenger of Allah-peace is upon him- while he was sitting with a group of the companions and asked him “Are you the person who says you are the messenger of Allah?” The prophet peace is upon him said “yes”. He then said “O messenger of Allah which act is the most beloved in the sight of Allah?” The prophet peace is upon him replied “To believe in Allah” The man said “O messenger of Allah then what?” The prophet peace is upon him replied “to keep the kinship” The man said “O messenger of Allah then what?” The prophet peace is upon him replied “to enjoin the good and forbid the evil”.

Then the man said “O messenger of Allah which act is the most hated in the sight of Allah?” The prophet peace is upon him replied “to associate partners with Allah” The man asked “O messenger of Allah then what?” The prophet peace is upon him replied “to cut off the kinship” The man asked “O messenger of Allah then what?” The prophet peace is upon him replied “to enjoin the evil and forbid the good”.

This hadith is collected by Abu Ya’laa in a decent chain and Al-Albaanee graded it as sound in Sahihul-Jaami’ no 166 and as authentic in Sahihut-Targheeb no 2522.

There are many benefits to take from this hadith but I briefly point the following:

1-Loving and hating are from the attributes of Allah.

2-Believing in Allah is an act.

3-The importance of keeping kinship.

4-Associating partners with Allah is the most hated act to Allah.

5-The importance of enjoining the good and forbidding the evil.

6-The manners of asking and answering.

And Allah knows best.
